He earned that title in 1961 while driving for Ferrari. He won the 24 hours of Le Mans three times, the 12 hours of Sebring three times, the Argentine 1000 km two times, the Nurburgring 1000 km twice, the Grand Prix of Italy twice, and the Belgium Grand Prix.

He also won many other races. He was a partner in the renowned automobile restoration firm of Hill & Vaughn, and served as a judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on 40 separate occasions – more than any other individual.

He is a legend. Do you know who the one other Formula One World Champion Driver is from the USA?

  1. He is the only FIA champ born in the USA, I think. Mario was born in Italy.
